TROOP COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

PLC Report:   Luke S. reported that September will have a Forestry Theme.

9/15:    Forestry – Pre-opening – games, play freesbe,

                   Roadrunner – Flags

                                Skill and Instruction – Hike

                                 Patrol Meetings – Forestry Games

 

9/22:    COH

COH at Ark with Koller hall as an alternative.

                                Fire with Somares

The PLC will email Fred K. to attempt to reserve the Ark

 

9/29:     Hike,  Move the meeting time to 6:15,  Drive to Katherine Abbot or Tamarack Nature Center.

  Drive back by 8:15.

 Requirements for First Class.

10 plants, 10 animal signs.

Need drivers and three adults.

Plants – Linda

Orienteering – Rich L.

Tamarack has an indoor program in case of bad weather.

 

The PLC would like fewer announcements after flags and opening to give more time at the meeting.

 

Bob L. mentioned that Copperhead, Wolf, Liger and Roadrunners currently don’t have Patrol Leaders listed, so we’ll need new Patrol Leaders elected and given to Bob.

 

Minutes:

·         A copy of the minutes were not available so they will be printed for the next meeting.

 

Scouts:

We received an email that Matt Filla has decided to drop from scouts even thought he had a good time at Tomahawk. 

Have Steve will send on invitation to Matt Filla to received his Merit Badges at the Sept. COH.

 

Calendar Changes:

  • Move Brule River to the end of the month. 
    • Wyeth asked how the Brule river date was added to the Calendar.  Was.there a boy interest in this campout?
    • Oct. may be getting late for Brule.  Steve K. suggested Sept 26-28 where it would fit init the calendar.  Steve W. will send out an email to see if there is interest in this trip.   Lee H. will put together a signup.  Cost is ~$75 for the weekend per person.  In the past Steve W. calls ahead and asks for a rate for the troop if we rent multiple canoes for the troop.
  • Popcorn sales start on 10/4 instead of the date listed on the calendar.   
  • Rich will verify that St Jude. Pancake breakfast dates.  Our calendar does not match the Church’s dates.  Rich will be sending out an email with correct dates.

 

 

Treasurer’s Report:

No report.

 

Outdoor Activities:

  • Brule Trip, Sept 26-28. Cost ~$75
  • Fall Camporee.  Theme Jurassic Park.  Cost ~$15.  Oct. 10-12
  • Tomahawk.  – Lee collected $3741.10 collected with $1852.65 paid from Scout accounts.
    • Lee is checkup up on some final payments from scouts.
    • Adults meals may need adjustment.
      • $7 per day, but this could be upped to make up a portion of the shortfall.
    • $1020.05 in the red for Tomahawk.
      • $229 Troop Expenses – equipment and merit badge books.
    • Lee, Rich, Fred and Steve will work on the final numbers and will come up with the proposals.
  • Winter Camping
    • We should start early with the planning on winter camping.  We need to find where the boys have interest in going and the dates that are available.  The three day weekends are probably filled by now at Okpik.  We should push for winter camping with deposits.
      • Lee needs to work with the PLC on winter camping with possible sing ups in Oct.
      • Okpik, Feb 13-16 is scheduled for the dogsled track.
      • Okpik, Tomahawk and Sterns need to be looked at for possible winter camping options.

 

 

Pack / Troop Interaction:

Bob G. and John N. have the pack calendar done with a couple of conflicts.  The Pack needs two den chiefs for Webelos I.  The Pack likes the Troop involvement in the Pinewood derby.

 

 We can add Pack Meetings to the Troop Calendar. 

 

Steve K. will invite the Webelos to the Pancake Breakfast and the Fall Camporee.

 

Service Events / Community Service:

The service events that Steve F. listed on the email in January are still available to work on. 

  • Eagle Projects are also part of community service.
  • Mike C. asked if we can list of the Troops community service events on display for the scouts in the newsletter.  Steve F. will supply Kelvin a clip for the upcoming newsletters.

 

Woodbadge

Wyeth attended Woodbadge, congratulations Wyeth.  As part of woodbadge  each candidate has five goals/tickets, which are approved by the woodbadge troop guide to be completed in the following year.  Three of Wyeth’s tickets are dealing with our troop.  Wyeth asked for approval for the committee to proceed with his tickets.  All of Wyeths tickes were approved, they include:

  • Ticket 5:
    • Boy Scout Troop Leader Training program for the scouts.
  • Ticket 2:
    • Adult Leader training.  Mike asked if Wyeth was our troop training coordinator.   Motion passed for Wyeth to be our troop training coordinator.
  • Ticket 1:
    • To provide a ‘year-round’ troop with rank releated activities available to work toward advancement working with SPL’s and Patrol leaders.  Motion passed
    • 3 –quarters with a one month overlap, with Aug, November, March with a three month periods with one month dedicated for Patrol outings.

 

 

RoundTable;

Add Star Fun to the calendar May 16-17, 2009.

Fishing opener at White Bear Lake where the Troop could set something up.

New application forms.

Fall Camporee – Sign up as soon as possible.

Popcorn  Sales

 

FOS Coordinator needs to be at next round table.  (Paul Hoff / Tom Dosland).

 

 

Other:

Rich mentioned that we need to clean up / organize our space in the bowling alley.  He also asked if Mike C. is going to be the popcorn coordinator, but Mike said that he believes that John is the coordinator.
