TROOP COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

PLC Report:
· Ben indicated that the last three Monday meetings were spent on the Annual Plan. Ben emailed the themes to the troop list. The goal for this was to have themes related to merit badges.
· Ben would need four cars with work with parts identification, flood lights, jacks and jack stands are needed for the next two meetings. Ben indicated that he wanted to reserve the ark parking lot. Wyeth indicated that the school parking lot would probably would be safer. Lee indicated the Phil Walkins was interested in this merit badge. Wyeth also indicated that the local auto garages may also be used to aid in this. Steve W. indicated that he could supply new and used auto parts for demos.
· The forth meeting will be an auto movie.
· The fifth meeting would be to the Ford Plant field trip.
· The sixth week would be small engine repair. Steve K. suggested that Tom Billey runs a small engine repair shop in this garage.
· Dec / Jan: Hobbies and Engineering.
· Jan / Feb: Snow Sports
· March/April: Citizenship and Law Enforcement
· May/June: Aquatics
· Wyeth mentioned that the scouts should put something together for Scout Sunday. Wyeth will get a list of requirements for the Catholic and Protestant Religious Awards

Treasurer’s Report:
· The Treasurer was absent from the meeting. The committee chair will contact the Treasurer for a report at the next committee meeting, even if the Treasurer cannot attend.

Scout Account:
· John Y. reported on the current scout account activity and reported the current balances of the scouts using the scout accounts. John remove the scout names from the report to ensure privacy. There are 14 scouts with scout accounts with five scouts who took advantage of using the scout accounts for camping outings or camping supplies.

Outdoor Activities:
·
· Camporee, Hobbit Pie (Dutch oven Pizza) demo and latching demo. Our troop had ~13 scouts and with some Webelos II scouts staying overnight. There was some conflict with the date with football and a school field trip that caused some scouts to drop out.
· Okpik 2007, Jan 19-22, 2007
o Two crews are reserved, one cabin stay and one outdoor.
o Scott Betlach is also planning on a extended three day trip for a crew size of 10. (Dog sled crew) Fourteen and over with overnight experience and somebody who can follow directions. $110/per person per day. ($330 per person).
o Leave Friday for training Friday night, go out Saturday Morning and come back Monday.
o $25 deposit with signup starting next scout meeting.
o Lee will find out the minimum Dog Sled Crew Size.
· Webelos Transition – It was suggested to have this transition the Webelos at Kiwanis Scout Camp.
· Summer Camp – We’ll need to get commitments on the adult leaders.
o July 15-21 Many Point
o Aug 4-11 Tomahawk
· Steve K. indicated that there was a low turnout of older scouts in the last few campouts. There is also a concern of boys signing up and then not showing up for the campout. There was a suggesting that as part of the signup would also be a deposit for the campout.
· Lee will send out planning dates (either post scout meetings) or another date for planning on the next scheduled camping meetings.

Trainings:
· Lee will send out a Survey to Adults for current Training certification and for the list of adult drivers. Fred also indicated that he needs to report the adult training records to the district.
· Everybody should update their youth protection if they expired. This can be done online or at one of the upcoming training events. If done online print the certification screen to complete the certification.
· Wyeth mentioned that the district training will be occurring in March or April and this would be a training opportunity for Youth Protection, Save Swim Defense and Safely Afloat.

Advancement:
· There will be a Tenderfoot BOR next Monday.
· Bob L. also mentioned that we have ~$100 in the account at the scout office so we’re in good shape for upcoming advancement badge purchases.
· Bob L. is currently doing Internet Advancement with the scout office. This is working out real well.
· Steve W. indicated that some of the merit badge cards were taking too long to complete. It shouldn’t take years to complete a merit badge.
o Some comments were that it’s up to the boy or maybe the merit badge counselor to decide the timeline.
o Steve W. will check with other ScoutMaster’s to find the policies of other troops. Bob L. will also check with the scout office.
· Steve W. also indicated that Tony West has his Eagle Paperwork ready to go. Mike Greene has completed his Eagle Project and merit badges.
· Bob L. mentioned that the troop computer records don’t always match the scout’s books. We need to keep reminding the younger scouts to check in with Bob.
· Steve suggested that we should probably have a updated rank advancement board. There was some talk about a possibly doing this on a computer spreadsheet. Bob L, will buy two rank advancement boards. A new troop scribe could update the boards with the current advancement records from the scout books.

New Business:
· There are some new tents coming to the scouts who recruited new scouts.
· We need to encourage more patrol outings for the patrol. The Scout cabins can be reserved for up to a year in advance, however the local camps are filling up fast.
· Rich L. indicated that we should get a TroopPLC email list.
Troop / Pack Interaction:
· The Pack is looking for one more scout to be a den chief for a Bear Den. Need to be a first class and need to be trained. Wyeth will check on the training schedule for Den Chief Training. The Den Leader also needs to go to the Den Chief training.
