TROOP COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

PLC Report:  

·          Mechanics theme --

·          11/14 -- Need one or two flood lights to make friction bridges in the ark parking lot.

·          11/21 – starting auto mechanics merit badge.

·          Discussed with the PLC a possible COA in December or January.

·          Discussion about the Troops Vision that the boys discussed at the PCL.

 

Minutes:

·          Approved

 

Roundtable Report:

·          Dennis attended and has some re-charting information.    Boy scouts need to be rechartered by 1/31/06 for existing scouts.  Webelos II re-charter with Pack by 3/31/05 and they’ll transfer to Troop for a $1 fee.

·          Spring Fling of the order of arrow, 4/14-16

·          Merit Badge day, 2/11 at St. Joe’s church in Lino Lakes.

·          Scott will contact the Troops OA’s to get an OA rep that will represent the Troop at Roundtables.

 

Newsletter:

·         Next newsletter in Dec.

·         Lee Hunt will get the Webelos II email address so they can be included in the newsletter email.

·         Dennis will contact Bob L. for updated mailing lists.

 

Calendar:

·          Okpik winter camping – Lee is attempting to get Presidents day weekend on 2/18.  That date may be full and we may be pushed out a weekend.

 

Fund Raising

·          $4200 worth of popcorn was sold.   All scouts have a online account at Trailsend, so they can sell popcorn all year with a 25% bonus.  Next year the scouts could have the product available to bring with them to sell.

 

Outings / Trip Reports:

·          It is suggested that the patrols have a external activity.  The troop may be willing to pay some of the expense

·          Scouts days outing for Wild games.  Lee will make an announcement at the next meeting for a winter date.

·          Possible climbing merit badge at Vertical Endevers.

·          Three boy competed the 20 mi hike in 5 hours 20 minutes.  Steve has a list of the boys who couldn’t make it at the last hike and my attempt another 20 mi hike if needed.

·          Fall Camporee

o         Good Turnout – 34 scouts / adults

o         The troop took home a majority of the awards.  (cleanest mess, cleanest kitchen)

o         Steve received the recipe book from the fall camporee.

·          Buckthrorn event has passed.

·          Pancake Breakfast (St Jude)

o         Mike Greene will present the 2005 Pancake breakfast signup at the next few meetings. 

o         Fred K. will talk to Mary Kamitch for kitchen duties / supplies.

o         Steve will need to order the day old Texas toast and the sausage supplies.

·          4/21-23/06 – Ripley Ronderview. 

o         There is also an extreme version for scouts age 15 and above so we’ll need to get those boys signed up.

 

 

Advancement:

·         All troop adults are encouraged to sign up to be a merit badge counselors.  Dennis has emailed out the merit badge list of active troop merit badges.  The merit badge counselors need to encourage the scouts to sign up for the merit badges.

·         There is also a Disrtict Merit badge list for boy to go outside the troop for counslelors.

·         The patrols should be encouraged to work on merit badges possibly as a group external to the meetings.

·         As of 1/1/06 there will be a new first class requirement where the scout will need to talk to and non-scout to a meeting / outing.  If the scout has completed second class and is working on first class.

·         Troop Elections terms.  – Mike mentioned that a lot of the troops have one year terms to go with an annual plan.  The downside would possibly limit leadership opportunities.

·         There needs be a list of open troop leadership positions to discuss with boys.

 

Troop Inventory:

·          Lee will organize a cleanup weekend to re-wash / organize the mess kits.

 

University of Scouting

·         Three scouts attended Den Chief training.

 

Parents guide book

·         Lee is working on a guideline for new scouts.  This should be ready for new parents next year.

 

New Business:

·         Committee Chair Successor 

o        Dennis would like to step down as the Committee Chair at the end of this school year due to other volunteer commitments.  Anyone interested in filling the Committee Chair should contact Dennis.  If possible the new chair could co-chair with Dennis and assist with the January re-charter.

o
