TROOP COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

May 9, 2005

PLC Report:   Dan Hoff

·         PLC last meeting planned for June 6th pizza party, funding being requested for 5 pizzas and drinks.

o        Troop will pay for the pizza and drink.

·         May 16th, meeting, boys need to know out-door code, Capture the Flag game will be played

o        Tent, cot and dining fly set-up will be demonstrated for the 1st year boys.

o        Steve Frost will go to Fred C. to pick up tents, etc. needed for demo.

·         May 23, opening, Leave No Trace skills, boys being asked questions at the door. 

o        Skills, lashings for older boys, need 20-24 poles, 6 poles for each group and a bag of ropes.  Then the boys will break into patrols.

o        Talk about merit badges not being completed and help them along.

o        Walls tents needed for a race, 2 walls and 2 domes tents also needed.

·         May 20th, meet at Ark parking lot for OA clean up at 5:30 p.m.

·         May 30th parade, 8:45 boys at St. Jude in full uniform, candy will be tossed out.

 

Minutes:

·         Approved

 

Roundtable Report:

·         We are a Quality unit again.

·         District dinner food was good, however next year our Troop should be represented better.  Attendence was lacking.  It is a great time to meet other leaders and support every one of them.  We all know its more than one hour a week.  Be there to praise one another.

 

Newsletter:

·         The next News Letter will be sent out at the end of May.  It will include summer meeting dates. 

·         Merit Badge councilors need to supply any dates that are reserved for summer merit badge work.

 

Calendar:

·         May 16th is changed to a regular meeting.

·         June 6th is added as a regular meeting.

·         June 6th board of reviews, clean up of old merit badges.

·         June 13th is the next court of honor.

 

Library:

·         Merit badges books need to be updated and need to be purchased, we have the money, let’s do it.

o        Books could be kept here instead of carrying them back and forth.  Ask the boys if they have any that they would like to donate.

o        Our library needs to be compared to the BSA web site updated books.

 

Pancake Breakfast Report (Dick Bartlet):

·         2004 2005 Total

·         $2983 last year.  This year a decline of 23%.  This year $2297 profit.

·         Food cost up by $70.00 over last year even after having the French toast being donated.

·         Need to brain storm for better turn out and make our only fund raiser a better turn out.

·         Bake sale $290.00 Isak did a fantastic job

·         Placemats were great

·         Raffle down by 30%

·         Actually report of this can be obtained by Dick Bartlet via email.

 

 

Fund Raising

If the boys want to do high adventures some serious ideas for fund raisers and personal accounts to be established.  This decision needs to be a separate meeting.  Looking for leader to head this meeting

 

 

Good Turn

·         Mark Ashby asked the troop if they would like to help clean up Mark’s section of road.  Dennis Lindeke (Mark’s neighbor) will contact Mark.

·         St Jude Church Cleanup – Pick a weekend in May.  -- Announce to the boys to see if a boy / patrol want to lead this.  

·         At the April meeting, Lee Hunt mentioned that there was a buckhorn remove project in the northwest corner of White Bear Lake.  This will be done in the fall again and is an opportunity for boys looking for service hours.  

 

Outings / Trip Reports:

·         Bullheads – Training week end planned for this Sat., May 14th, Boys need to select route and fund raiser for this summers trip.

·         Shoot and Fest, 4/15 – 4/17 - High humidity (rain) but had a good time.  Coon hunting video was the highlight.  Good program. 12 boys attended.  Boys should use their own cook kits next time and any other outings to avoid the paper waste.

·         White Water rafting – Wavier forms to be filled out by parents prior to event, not by leaders.

o        Cleanup Weekends - Phillippo cleanup 5/20-22, Jim Greene will provide a signup, $10 to cover the cost of the weekend.

·         Tomahawk camping. 

o        There was a talk about having a week end camp out to prepare the boys to cook and get cook kits ready for their week at Tomahawk.

·         Scouting for Food – District was 2562 lbs. collected.  Our troop numbers in predication should be upped about 15 boys participated.

 

FOS:

·         Paul Hoff received certificate for FOS,  overall the goal exceeded by 12% this year

·         Troop goal $3600 and our figure was $5000.  GREAT JOB and a big Thank You.

 

Weblos transition:

·         Boys need the registration to get turned in so they will be on the Troop’s mailing list.  Rich is working with Bob to get all of the boys signed up.

 

Eagle Projects: 

·         Eagle plaque has a placement approval, suggested to put in a glass locking case located in the Church entryway.

·         Mike S. had his Eagle project started, good turn out.  Next date to be announced.

 

Training:

·         White Bear City Hall; Next three Thursdays for adult training.  Go to council web site for information 

·         June 4 and 5 for “Leave No Trace” training.  BSA is pushing this for all to attend.  Scouts having a bad name for leaving messy camps.

 

JLTC:

Three boys from the Liger patrol (Ben, Isak and Spencer) are going the JLTC this summer.  In addition Ben and Isak will be serving as CIT’s (Councilor In Training) this summer at Tomahawk.

 

Troop Inventory:

An inventory of the troop’s supplies needs to be done.  Isak / Kelvin will pick a date to coordinate the inventory with several adults / scouts helping.

 

New Business:

·         Get your health forms taken care of in advance for Tomahawk, adults included.
