TROOP COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

May 7, 2006

·               PLC Report:   

o        Ben Logan report that the theme of the month is athletics.

§         5/15 – Capture the flag.  – Copper heads

·         Eagles will do flags.

·         Skills and instructions will be setting up tents.  Every will be blindfolded with the leader setting up the tents.  Then will break-up into groups to talk of what went well.

o        The arc will need to be opened to set up the tents.  Steve will open the arc.

§         5/22 -  pre-meeting – tug-of-war

·         Flags – new patrol

·         Invite Mrs. Schwarz to talk about athletics and food groups

·         Plan an athletic meeting outside of scouts.

·         Closing new patrol

§         6/5 – pre – set-up a field day.  Each patrol will plan an event.

·         Opening – golden stars – flags.

·         Water balloon toss. – new patrol

·         Shape game – copper head

·         Relay – stare

·         Spoon of marble game – eagles

·         Ligar patrol – pick an activity.

·         Closing stars.

§         6/12 - Tomahawk planning meeting instead of the June COH.

o        Steve suggested that the PLC meetings should be done at a round table to all better communication between scouts

 

·         Troop planning for 2006/2007

o        Mike indicated that we should try to get the PLC involved in the Troop Planning for the next year and we should have them pick the themes for the year, campout, outings ect.  This would be about an 8 hour job.

§         Steve suggested a overnight camping out with the adults working on all of the cooking, cleaning to aid the boys in focusing on planning.

§         The other model is to have two nights of planning / pizza meetings.

§         The annual plan is due in Sept / Oct timeframe.

o        Steve W. mentioned that most troops do planning post summer camp. 

o        Mike mentioned if it was done in June then the boys could plan some summer outings.

o        Wyeth suggested that the meeting could be made as a JLT training opportunity.

§         Steve suggested doing a JLT first and then a annual plan.  Steve suggested the JLT this summer with a post summer meeting.

§         Steve also suggested that we could continue scheduling meetings thru the summer.  For example last summer we continued to meet thru the summer to work on merit badges.

o        June 9/10 was picked for a JLT at the arc at 6pm Friday.

o        John Y. suggested to pick the big events like the pancake breakfast because the church is having it’s planning meeting for it’s calendar over the next few weeks.

 

n       Roundtable Report :

o        Manitou District Dinner – Steve Wiberg received the District Award of Merit.

o        Cooking demo – The boys cooked a dutch oven breakfast.

Scoutmaster Report: 

 

Outings / Trip Reports:

o        Lee submitted the reservations a Many Point and they deposited the check.  Lee put in for one Family campsite and other sites for the week of July 15, 2007.

§         Steve asked if this was to be a replacement for Tomahawk.  Lee indicated that it would not be a replacement but a way for older scouts to attend a different scout camp.  Many Point is also going to a Tomahawk reservation system. 

o        Star Fun – 19 camping and 5 coming for the day.  Collect most of the funs and a check were written to the council.  Steve K. mentioned that the wrist bands will be coming this week.

o        White Water rafting – Turned in and should be good to go.

o        Tomahawk camping.    – 15 scouts, plus 10 first years.  Lee wants the PLC to schedule a Tomahawk planning meeting in early June.  This is to let the boys determine if they want to cook or not.

§         Date scheduled for June 12.

o        Scouting for Food – went well in the rain.  They collect 2000 lbs for the Mahtomedi food shelf.

o        High Adventure – Steve reported the status of the planning.

§         Steve indicated that our troop is more geared to car / trailer camping with heavy equipment, while other troops are geared for lightweight camping with backpacking equipment that could be checked out by the boys.

·           Steve asked if the troop could buy some gear for the outing, for example First Aids kits, Water Purifier and Stoves.

o        Wyeth – New motion to purchase two water filters with backup filters.  Scott will purchase the water filters.

o        Steve L. indicated that we need to watch our spending so we don’t spend too much.  Only the Water Filters purchase was approved.

o        Steve said that he talked with Sherwood Plamroy at the pancake breakfast and he reminded Steve that he has a Patrol Box in his garage.  Steve F. said that he’d pick up the patrol box.

 

Pancake Breakfast:

o        Thanks to Mary Hoff for coming to mop the floors after the pancake breakfast.

o        Kyle reported –

§         Bake Sale – Made $268 (with paying $76 for Wild Rice)

·         The Wild Rice went well.

§         Raffle $643

·         Suggested that you could vote by putting you ticket per box.

§         Placemats made $1300

§         $100.47 to Steve F. for painting / flyers

§         $18 to Steve W. for posters.

§         $193.45 was the cost of the food at same.

§         $9.57 was the cost at Festival Foods.

o        Work schedule should be posted to allow the boy to know what they should be working on door.  For example on the back of the kitchen door.  More communications.

o        Made ~$3300 minus a few expenses left.

§         ~300 people served.  225 adults, 66 kids, 4 free, 43 seniors.   (Last year was 191)
