General Camping / Outing discussion:

Mike C. indicated that we don’t have a good pitch for getting scouts interested in the troop scout outings.

Wyeth mentioned that we should have the boys assist with an annual plan to attempt to give the kids a theme for the camping outings, i.e. working on rank advancement, merit badges.  He also indicated that all of these camping outings should be part of the annual plan.

Steve K. indicated that hasn’t been a good turnout from the troop for the spring outing of Trailblazer and Ripley, except the first years and a few other scouts.  Steve W. indicated that there was a good turnout for the winter camping outings at Snow Base and Okpik, and the crossover weekend at Kiwanis.

n       There was much discussion about outings and patrol outings and merit badge outings.

o        Paul H. indicated that the occasional nudge to assist the boys to go on outings.

o        Wyeth indicated that the older scouts should provide the nudging for the boys to get out.

o        Paul H. indicated that even the older scouts need to get nudged, especially in the 11 & 12 grades.

Advancement:

·         Advancement –

·         JLTC Training at the Ark on 6/25

o        Scott B. will assist Steve W. for the JLTC training for a group of boys with at least the boys in the current leadership.  Steve asked two boys participated last year to assist.  Paul H. mentioned that the recent Eagles could assist.  The goal is to have the boys get their trained patch.

·         General Notes:

§         There were some comments on the pricing on the omelet bar for adults just wanting an omelet.

o        Thanks to Chris Wiberg for helping in the kitchen during the pancake breakfast.

·         Steve L. indicated that he knows about a scout troop that pre-sale tickets for a spaghetti dinner.  They require seven ticket sales.  If the scout sale more than seven tickets, the remaining money goes to the scout account.   Steve L. will need to get more details on how this works at the other troop.  This could get more sales.

Scouting for Food:

·         Scouting for food.  Two groups from 433 with most scouts being first year scouts.  The district had a new record with about 2800 pounds.

·         There has been a lower turnout at scouting for food the last few years.  Next year we should really push to get a better turnout for scouting for food.

·         Mike C. mentioned that the troop should buy patches to recognize the boys who participated with the boys for scouting for food.   Steve W. motioned and Wyeth seconded.  Steve W. will contact the scout for food coordinator.
