Troop 433 Committee Meeting – June 25, 2007
This committee meeting was
primarily focused around ideas for strengthening the troop – taking us from
good to better. Some of the
comments/questions:
-
Need to improve
scout participation and attendance
-
Need to improve
the link of the troop with the pack
-
How do we
strengthen our community service?
-
Need to improve
retention
-
How do we
document and communicate troop history and heritage?
We had a good discussion of
ideas for improvement. Some of the key
areas of focus that we decided to pursue:
1) Troop/ Pack
Relationship
a. Assign an adult committee member to be the pack
liaison
b. Strengthen our
den chief program. Have a den chief
assigned to each webelos den.
2) Improve
scout participation, attendance, and retention
a. Focus on improving patrol participation by assigning
1 or 2 adult “mentors” to each patrol.
Scouts will run the patrol but mentors will monitor patrol activity and
keep them on track. Mentors will also
track progress of scouts within the patrol and also provide a patrol update at
the committee meeting
b. Update the rank advancement board
c. Update the merit badge counselor list for the troop
d. Hold a parent meeting at the beginning of each scout
year for parents to meet each other, learn about the troop’s plan for the year,
and understand how our troop works and the importance of participation.
e. Provide and encourage training for adult leaders –
set up a strong adult training program as part of the annual plan. Get an update from Wyeth on training status
for all adult leaders.
3) Troop
History
a. Will strongly encourage the troop to fill the
Historian position and assign an ASM to mentor this position
4) Community
Service
a. Assign an ASM to monitor and plan service
b. Make community service part of the annual plan
A subcommittee will be
formed to implement these changes and will meet in August after Tomahawk. The following people have volunteered so far
to be part of the committee:
Linda C.
Paul H.
Scott B.
Steve W.
Mike C.
Fred K.
Others are encouraged to
volunteer. We want to make sure that we
also have participation on this subcommittee from at least one of the newer
adult leaders.
Fred will schedule the first
subcommittee meeting.
Steve Wiberg will talk to
Isaac and schedule the annual planning meeting for August after Tomahawk.
Respectfully submitted,
Fred Koerschner
