TROOP COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES (UNAPPROVED)

January 12, 2004

Eagle Project Presentation: Alex B. proposed to build and install wood duck houses along the south shore of Otter Lake. The committee liked the project and encouraged Alex to finish the paperwork and bring it back for approval.

 

Junior Leadership College: Chris K. presented on Junior Leadership College, an all-day training April 3 to help troops help boys run the troop. Chris was encouraged to submit his Eagle project description as soon as possible.

 

PLC Report: Good turnout. Jan 19 – Court of Honor, Bullmoose Patrol will be in charge. January 26 – camp gadget night: need sticks for gadgets.

 

Scoutmaster Report: Steve commended Peter for a meeting well run and thanked adults for helping with boards of review.

 

Roundtable Report: Dennis reported. OA elections are needed in February. WHO? will coordinate with the next troop elections. Silver Pathfinder nominations are due; Steve will take care of this. Klondike Derby will be Feb. 7. Merit Badge Day will be Feb. 14.  Ice Fishing Derby for local troops will be Jan. 25. Recognition dinner for Manitou District will be March 6. Randi Trinka will get Silver Beaver. Scouts will attend WCHA Finals, Xcel Center, March 20. Sea Base, Lake Superior High Adventure was promoted. Youth Protection certification is required every two years for leaders; training will be available at Roundable and at St. Judes in March. Training can be done online; see Indianhead.org/training/youthpro/ypt-online.htm (select “Indianhead Council” at the prompt). Wood Badge (outdoor and leadership skills) will be held next Sept. and Oct at Phillippo Scout Reservation.

 

Newsletter: Needed as soon as possible, will include recharter form.

                       

Outings: Okpik winter camping will be Feb. 13–15. So far 19 participants are registered. Most will be staying indoors. Sign up with Peter or Alex. Fred C. campout will be April 2-4, and will include Webelos crossover. Tomahawk will be Aug 7-14.

 

Financial Report: Dick is working on a balance sheet for the Sept. 1-Aug. 31 FY. Income and expenses are pretty close (within $200). Dues for rechartering are $20/year ($10 for rechartering and $10 for Boys Life) and $10 for adults. Scouterships are available for those in need. Paul was encouraged to bill the troop for stamps for newsletter mailings. Friends of Scouting is at two-thirds of its financial goal.

 

Advancement: Court of Honor will include F.O.S. and merit badge day signup. The troop currently has three active Eagle projects: Chris Kuehn, Carl Betlach, and Alex Bryan. Tim Nipp is done with his Eagle project. Merit badge counselor rosters are being updated. Steve recommended that merit badge counselors schedule sessions to teach, announce dates ahead of time in the newsletter, and come prepared to teach. Classrooms are available upstairs.

 

Equipment: Storage upstairs needs some additional work.

 

Old Business: Troop elections and OA elections will be held in February, date to be determined.

 

Adult Training: Wyeth reported there will be training for troop committee members March 6.
