TROOP 433

TROOP COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

January 10, 2005

Note: action items are underlined

Present:  Dennis Lindeke, Scott Betlach, Kelvin Vartti, Linda Christensen, Mike Checky, Bob Libel, Steve Wiberg, Dick Bartlett, Wyeth Lewis

·               PLC Report:  Nick Lindeke reported on the upcoming meetings:

n       Roundtable Report:

o        OA nominations should occur in January.  It was assumed that our current OA representative would continue in that role.

Newsletter / Calendar

o        The December update of the newsletter  / calendar was sent out in December.

December / January Good Turn

o        Linda contacted city hall and they have not responded yet.

o        The Troop assumed a yearly service project to clean out the 12 wood duck houses that were installed as part of Alex Bryant’s eagle project last year.

o        Are there any projects that can be done for the church?

§         Wyeth suggested that cleaning the chairs / floor in the church would be a project that our sponsor would appreciate.  Wyeth took on this project himself in the past and it took him ~ 8 hours to complete.  With scouts and adults it would take just a couple of hours.  This could be a project that is done multiple times throughout the year; however it was noted that it may be a good spring cleaning project.

Minutes:

Scoutmaster Report:

Outings / Trip Reports:

Pancake Breakfast:

Treasurer’s Report:

(From Dec minutes)  $2617 in account last month.  Re-charting will be coming up, but most of that will be coming back with re-charter fees.

FOS:  Goal this year is $3400->$3600.  Paul has sent out packets with the Dec newsletter.

Re-Chartering:

Dennis is collecting the recharters.  The goal is to have all of the re-chartering complete by the end of January.  Dennis will call a sub-committee to complete the re-chartering.

Advancement:

n       District Merit Badge Fair – Feb 26, 8 am -> 3 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 171 Elm Street, Lino Lakes.  The troop should plan on having a better turnout this year.  We need to get this information to the scouts so they can sing up early to get an opportunity to attend the merit badges that fill up quickly.  Merit badge councilors could still sign up to lead a merit badge.

n       In addition Scouts can always go outside of our troop to work on merit badges.

Eagle Projects:

n       Mike S. presented his eagle project for boot storage at St. Judes Ark.  This project is a coat hook rack and cubbies to assist up to 40 students for after school activities.

n       Carl B. has two ½ badges left to complete.

Deep Star Meeting:

n       Set up a meeting for March.  Could possible have a cooking theme, where the kids could plan a cookout / and have a cooking contest.  (Could try out some summer menu plans).

PLC Planning:

Training (from Dec minutes):  Silver Pathfinder training leadership will be $199 for participants and $99 for trainers.  The lions club may be able to provide a scholarship for the training.  Dennis will draft a letter to present to the Lions club.  The legion may also be able to help.

Webelo’s Transition:

Twelve scouts from Pack 433 are planning on crossing over to Scouts.  Should plan on a weekend campout in March and the webelos should plan their crossover ceremony or a local crossover.  A local crossover may make it easier for the boys to attend because some boys may not be able to make it to a campout.  Coordinate with Rich Logan.

New Business:

Fundraiser  (from Dec minutes):

Discussion was made for different fundraising activities.  The cub scouts have been fundraising to help cover their camping costs.  There are different fund raisers, like delivering phone books, popcorn sales, stuffing flyers into papers, bagging at Festival.
