TROOP COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

Present: Scott Betlach, Kelvin Vartti, Steve Frost, Steve Kuhn, Mike Checky, Rich Logan, Steve Wiberg, Steve Lindloff, Dave Puskala, John Yarusso, Paul Hoff, Bob Libel, John Norlien, Linda Christenson
PLC Report:
· The PLC asked if the troop could buy a charcoal starter. Paul Hoff said that he will donate one that hasn’t used.
· The PLC needs the ark on 1/15 and 1/29. Steve K. will ask Jennifer if we can reserve the ark for those nights.
· No meeting on 1/22 which is day that the winter campers are returning.
· Scott indicated that he would like a short meeting after the 1/15 meeting with Okpik campers.
· Jan 15
o Need supplies to make three Dutch oven desserts for the Skills and Instruction night and for the Klondike derby demo, including charcoal, ~ $50. The committee approved the $50 purchase.
· Jan 29
o The PLC May attempt to build a new sled for this years Klondike derby. There are probably many sets of skis that could be donated to the troop.
o Scott suggested that Isak / Spencer should send out a list of materials to the troop to see if the materials could be donated.

Treasurers Report:
· Pancake Breakfast Results:
· Many Thanks to Steve Frost for his help before and during the pancake breakfast.
· This was a Successful breakfast. A $1770 check was given to the church of which they probably spent ~$350 -> $400. in cost. The number served was ~350 people.
· The troop as ~$3500 not including scout accounts.
· Popcorn report.
o Balance $3013.95 spread across the boys that sold popcorn.
· Troop Pancake Breakfast:
o It was suggested that the Scout Pancake breakfast raffle to be turned into a silent action.
FOS:
· This year’s goal is $4800, with a growth goal of $5000.
· Paul reported that ¼ of the FOS was turned in with about ¼ of the dollar amount turned in. Paul suggested that it would be nice to have them turned in by the end of Jan. and thanked everyone that had already donated.
Outdoor Activities:
· Okpik
o 5 - adults, 8 - scouts. Lee will be sending out the final bill on 1/9.
· Snow Base
o 5 or 6 scouts, 2 - adults will attend snow base if there is enough snow.
· Camping Dates:
o Rich L indicated that it is going to be harder to reserve buildings once the council merged. We need to plan the camping in advance so advance reservations can be made.
o Steve W. indicated that many of the troops pick the dates ahead of time and set the dates. Many of the buildings need to be reserved over a year in advance.
o Steve indicated that the meetings after the JLT could be used to set up a annual plan with camping dates.
o Steve K. indicated that the Pack is starting to reserve a year in advance, which appears to be the trend among other troops.
o Scott B. indicated that we should pick four buildings for the next year with the deposit to reserve the dates.
o Motion to book a min of three with a max of five dates for the year. Motion passed. Steve K. and Rich Logan will look at the dates available.
o The goal is to have a camping outing once a month.
· Klondike derby:
o 2/3 10am until 2pm.
o The weather is getting colder so the ice should be fine.
o The Troop will be using three or four Dutch ovens for a cooking demo
o The derby races will be about 1 am.
o The PLC wants to build a new sled. Dave P. has multiple plans for the Klondike derby. The old sled was built in 1999.
Advancement:
· Bob L. reported that he purchased the new advancement board, but he would like to wait to add the names until the crossover this March. We have 42 slots on this board and my need to purchase an additional board to hold all of the scouts.
· Merit Badge consolers list needs to be updated.
· Tony West and Mike Green have their Eagle badges approved so they need to have their COH.
· Spencer C. and Shane S. have their Life to Eagle packets. Steve will present them to the boys.
· Dick B. and Steve W. will host a Life to Eagle meeting, probably on a Sunday night at Steve or Dicks house at the end of Feb.
· Steve indicated that other troop meetings have the meeting plan on display for the current meeting as the boys come in and for the next meeting as the boys leave. Troop 433 had used this in the past and Steve thought the meetings would flow better if all scouts know the plan for the evening and the plan for the next meeting.
· 15 scouts helped on Andrew Eagle project.
· We probably need another COH in March along with the COH in June.
o Motion passed to add a COH in March. March 19
· It was suggested that the Troop should have a March, June, Sept and Dec COH in the future.
o There was some discussion about handing rank advancement before the COH so the boys could wear the badge on their uniform and then recognize them at a COH.
· Nick L. has earned his Gold Merit eagle palm before his 18 birthday.
Gray Wolf / Roundtable Report – Steve Wiberg
· Last year the troop didn’t send scouts to Gray Wolf. The district suggested that we’d send one scout to Gray Wolf camping date with one alternate. We need to nominate scouts to attend Gray Wolf.
· There are five dates for Gray Wolf all of which will be a Fred C. Anderson. The cost is $180.
· Steve will hand out Gray Wolf information to the scouts at the next meeting. The signup deadline is 3/31.
· There was discussion if the troop should pay for up to $180 for summer camp for scouts that also attended Gray Wolf. Another option was to pay ½ the cost of Gray Wolf from the troop, with sending letters to Lions, American Legion, ect. Steve L and Dave P. will help scouts with letters for training.
· The troop would like boys attending Gray Wolf to also attend summer camp.
· Steve W. mentioned that every Eagle that Troop 433 produced also went to Silver Pathfinder.
· There Summer Camp Staff openings for scouts interested in a summer job.

New Business:
§ Nominations for Star of the North, Star of the Future or District award of merit are due in March. Some names were suggested for the nominations.
§ Mike C. mentioned that he’s getting spam based on the Troop Email lists. Kelvin will ask Tom S. if the troop mailings can be limited to the addresses on the email list.
§ Steve indicated that we should set two orienteering days to allow the two younger patrols to get their requirements.
§ Steve W. received a phone call on Monday from Pine Springs thanking the troop for fixing the bridge at Kathleen Abbot Park.
§ Fred K. will lead this years pancake breakfast with Steve Frost as a backup.
Troop / Pack Interaction:
· Webelos to Scout bridging. The pack is in charge of the bridging ceremony. The Troop scouts will assist in the bridging.
· March 2 -> 4.
· Planning on a Saturday evening crossover with dinners.
· OA ceremony team might be able to help.
