Treasurers Report:

  • No change since the Jan. Report.
  • The Okpik and Snowbase camping was paid by the campers.
  • ~$3400 in troop account, with additional funds in the Scout Accounts.

FOS:

  • This year’s goal is $4800, with a growth goal of $5000.
  • We’re almost to the base goal.  We are not at 100% participation yet, but continued FOS donations will be accepted.  We are past the 1/31/07 deadline, so Paul and Tom will start to make phone calls in an attempt to get to 100% participation.  In past years, we have always been close to 100% participation.
  • Last year we exceeded our FOS goal and received free Merit badge cards and a new flag topper.
  • Fred reported the district is at 25% of this year’s goal.

Outdoor Activities:

·         Okpik

o        The weekend was great with the outdoor crew earning the Ski Trek patch by skiing 10 miles and two nights of outdoor camping in two different locations.  They skied to the Canadian border for lunch on Sunday.

o        The cabin crew had a good time sledding, skiing, hiking and dogsledding.

·         Snow Base

o        The Snow Base crew had a good camping trip sleeping under the stars on the second night.  The crew went on a 12-mile backpacking trip, which was farther than other troops.  The boys were the first ones to get the Blue Diamond scavenger hunt.  The food was good, but there wasn’t much snow.  The temperature was between 5 and 20 degrees, so there were no zero heroes.

o        The Boys had a good time.  Steve W. indicated that we should reserve a date for next year.

·         Camping Dates:

o        Lee indicated that we should pick the weekends for next years outings.  Scott B. indicated that he would lead a Dog Sled trek at Okpik.  We would need $300 to reserve a three-day weekend of our choice.  Lee indicated that Okpik cabin and outdoor stays do not need to be on the same weekend but the same weekend would possibly aid in carpooling. The troop can reserve the other Okpik weekends as next years date gets closer.

o        The cost of Snow base is $69 and covers all the equipment.

o        Steve motioned that the troop secure a group dates for Okpik for next year with a $300 deposit.  Motion passed.

o        Tomahawk is Sat, Aug 4th through Sat, Aug 11th.  We are estimating the cost will be in the $220 - $225 per scout range (last year it was $215 per scout).  Please use this estimate for budget purposes, and we will have a firm cost in the next month or so.  Signups will begin in the next month or so, and will require a $50 deposit.

o        Lee received an offer to reserve the Miami site for the 2008 Tomahawk for week 8, Aug 9-16.

o        Lee also received information for Many Point for this year.  This year we have week 4, July 15-21, if we keep week 4 next year, it will be July 20-26.   The cost for Many Point will be similar to Tomahawk with prices around $215->$225 per scout including a T-Shrit.  Lee will publish costs when he receives more information.

o        Webelos cross over is on March 2-4 at Kiwanis Scout Camp.  Gordon Hall was already reserved for this date.  We have a Buffalo bunkhouse for the weekend, which holds fourteen scouts with extra cots to allow more scouts to sleep in the bunkhouse.   March 2 will be the cross over ceremony.  We need to reserve the fire-ring for the crossover.  Steve W. suggested that we could possibly use the cafeteria as a backup for bad weather.  Steve K. will try to reserve the cafeteria / dining hall.  Try to be at Kiwanis by 7pm.  There will be five boys and two adults crossing over.  The boy scouts will plan and cook the dinner on March 2.

·         Klondike derby:

o        There were five boys from the troop and they made four Dutch oven deserts.  The White Bear press showed up and took pictures.  There were ~12 boys fishing with a couple of scouts catching fish.  There was ice bowling and good prizes.   The weather limited the amount of participants.  Fred K. said that Steve K. did a good pitch for the derby at roundtable.

·         Summer High Adventure:

o        Many Point and Tomahawk both have High Adventure programs the scouts could participate in.  Lee will try to make it to the next meeting and will have a short meeting after the troop meeting to see if there are boys interested in high adventure for the summer of 2007.

Advancement:

·         Steve W. reported that two boys are actively completing their eagle projects.

·         Steve W. also indicated that there will be a Deep Star and Life meeting on March 11, 6:30 pm, at the Wibergs house.  This is an effort to keep the scouts in Deep Star and Life moving toward Eagle.  Steve has two scouts that will help with this meeting.

Gray Wolf / Roundtable Report – Steve Wiberg

·         Steve has two Gray Wolf nominations based on the boys that have contacted Steve.  Steve will turn in the nominations this week.  Troop 433 is guaranteed to have one slot with other slots possibly opening up based on demand.
