Scoutmaster Report:

Outings:

·               Tomahawk

o         Tomahawk went well with the number of scouts and the weather.

o         The mixed patrols worked well, helping the younger scouts to work and learn from the older scouts.

o         The cooking arrangements that were set up due to the weather worked well.  All of the stoves and propane were set up in one covered area.  Next year we should arrange the same setup.

o         An additional table was needed for food prep for Tomahawk and for all campouts.  Steve Lindloff will purchase a white folding table from Sams.

o         There was some extra food at the end of the week because the food plan had three additional scouts that couldn’t make it to camp.

o         Paul Hoff has the partial merit badges that will be given back to the scouts at the COH.  Paul will keep the partial Astronomy merit badges and Kevin Donovan will set up a merit badge date with a counselor from Vadnais Heights.

o         Paul Hoff needs to set up the Tomahawk segments.

·         Brule River

o         Sept 24-26 is late in the season and it may be cold again this year.  We may need to rent wet suits because of the weather - $10 per wetsuit.  $30 per canoe.  If you have ten or more canoes and haul them ourselves we get  $22.50 per day.

o         Plan on charging $40 per person to cover expenses.

o         Dave P. will get a float pan with some of the camping merit badge scouts.

o         Only two cars per site are allowed at the Bois Brule Campground (Ranger Road south of US 2 in Brule).  Two –> Three tents per site

o         Looking into camping at a different campground, Copper Range Campground (4 miles north of Brule off of CTH H) and change the range of the river to canoe on.

Treasurer’s Report:

·         Tomahawk is the biggest expense of the year and costs ~$8000 this year.

·         Include in this cost is the camping, food, silver pathfinder training and some new equipment.  The equipment included  – 3 double burning stoves $270, Griddle $70, knifes / utensils $140

·         We undercharged ~$10 per scout for food.  Next year we’ll need to account for this in the camping cost.

·         We also had to pay $50 for 5 scouts who signed up late for camp.  Rich Logan mentioned that Webelos scouts should not have to pay late fees.  Next year the Tomahawk signup should have a date that will increase the cost of the camp if the scout signs up late.

·         Meeting our FOS goal allowed us to save $75 in Tomahawk Merit Badges.  Thanks to all for their FOS support.
