Treasurers Report:

  • No change in troop account with ~$3200 balance.
  • Dick B. is setting up a meeting with Steve L. to audit the troop account.
  • With out growing balance and the pancake breakfast fundraiser just around the corner, there was a discussion about options on how to spend down some of our balance.
    • Steve K. suggested in investing in some lightweight camping equipment, including backpacks and backpacking stoves.
    • Steve K. suggested that we should use some of the money to reserve the district camping outings.
    • Steve W. suggested that should use some of the funds as an incentive for patrol outings.
      • Scott B. suggested that we could have a set dollar amounts so the patrol size is not penalized.
      • The incentive would be available for scout related patrol outings.  For example going to a move would not qualify, but an outing to vertical endeavors would.
      • A motion passed to allocate $20 per scout or ~$1000 for the troop.
      • A sub-committee with Scott B., Steve W. and Kelvin  would generate guidelines for up to a $1000 for the patrol planned scouting activity with examples of possible uses.

FOS:

  • Paul H. reported that we are well past our growth goal with about $6500 (including pending matching gifts), with around 8 families that are still pending with their donation.  The donations are due by March 31, after that date families will be getting a call from the district.  The trooped qualified for the cast-iron cooking dutch oven and griddle.

n

Outdoor Activities:

n       Camping Dates:

n       Webelos Crossover – 6 boys crossed over with family members joining.  The weekend went well with Otter cabin at Kwanis scout camping working well for the crossover.  The new scout leaders really liked that we crossed over to boy scouts before too much time went past from the blue and gold.

n       Steve K. checked on district cabins for the year, but the fall camping weekends are full already.  With our current calander, the committee agreed that Steve K. should reserve cabins for early November 2006, early January 2007 and for the March 2007 Webelos crossover.

n       Lee reported on the upcoming camping dates:

o        Trailblazer is April 21 at Sterns.

At the next troop meeting, we need to get a signup to see the interest to see if we want to get a cabin at Sterns..

o         WhiteWater Rafting – May 5 weekend

-- We decided to skip this weekend and possibly plan a weekend in June when the water is warmer.

o        Ripley Rendezvous – June 1->3

Need to register the troop, unit and individual scouts.  We need to pay up front so Lee will have some information for the next meeting.

o        ManyPoint – July 15-21

This will be a additional signup page with the newsletter.  This is an alternative or additionan to Tomahawk.

o        HighAdventure;

Advancement:

n       Andrew Lindloff has taken his project a few steps further.  Fred will contact the district for a date for his board of review.

n       Life to Eagle packets will be given at the deep star / life meeting.

n       JLTC Training – If there is another adult that could help with the training of the JLTC.

n       The troop nominated one boy for the Star of the Future.

Gray Wolf / Roundtable Report – Steve Wiberg

n       Steve turned in three Gray Wolf nominations, but has not heard anything back from the district.

Pancake Breakfast:

n       A pancake breakfast meeting was held last week.  Fred sent out minutes with initial job assignments.

n       The next adult pancake breakfast meeting is on Tue, March 20 @ 7pm

Troop Sailboat

n       The troop has a M16 sailboat that was donated to the troop by Johnson Boatworks in the past.  Steve has maintained and serviced this boat with very little troop use.  There was discussion about raffling off the boat at the pancake breakfast with the proceeds going to fund the troop with supplies that may be more available for the troop, for instance backpacks.  Steve K. suggested that we could possibly raffle off the boat at cornfest, but John Y. suggested a possible sale at the St Jude Spring Dinner.  Steve W. will draft an email to see if the troop has interest in keeping the sailboat or if it could fund other equipment.

Ark Garage:

n       John Y. mentioned that we need to clean up the ark garage before the spring use of the garage for the spring play and dinner.  We need to get everything off of the floor onto the shelves.  If we run out of room, we’ll need to place some items in the troop trailer.
