Treasurer’s Report:

4/18/2008 - $13800 in the troop account, $4246 in scout accounts, $9552.99 in troop account with about $1000 remaining to be paid for remaining pancake breakfast expenses.

Steve W asked “How much money does the troop need in the bank to run?”  Steve L replied that $5000 to $6000 is a nice amount for this time of year.  The Tomahawk cost is usually around $5000 to $6000 so it’s good to have this much in the account to cover expenses before the scout checks are deposited.

The committee also talked about the camperships that are available for summer camping.  The council has a program that gives 50% camperships to cover summer camp.  There was a discussion that the troop could pay for additional camperships for any scouts in need.  Fred mentioned that it would be a shame that a scout didn’t go to camp based on cost and the troop should assist financially and find a way to cover the cost if needed.  Scott motioned that camperships should be available for full or partial payment for the camping fee.  The motion was approved, if there is a need the troop will supply the campership for summer camp.

The troop is also paying for summer camp for the three scouts that are attending Gray Wolf.

Steve W. suggested that the troop give back some of the pancake breakfast funds to organizations in need, perhaps the food shelf, community service project, St. Jude landscape project.  Linda mentioned that if we could donate a sign for Triangle Park that also mentioned the troop.  Wyeth suggested that we could invest more in leadership materials, den leader books, and merit badge books.  Rich mentioned that even mileage reimbursement would be nice with the current gas prices.

Steve L. suggested that we give 10% of pancake breakfast proceeds to service projects.

Fred suggested that as part of the annual plan, the troop should do a budget and then monitor the budget every couple of months.  Fred will put together a straw man budget.  Scott, Wyeth, Steve L. will help with the budget.

Outdoor Activities:

  • Tomahawk 2008.  Lee will pick dates for two parent meetings in the July timeframe to go over health forms and equipment needs for summer camp.  The June 2 COH will include a Summer Camp meeting after the COH.  Te will also pick one or two equipment meetings dates.  he estimated cost is $225 -> $235.
  • May 31 – White Water rafting.  Currently the troop has two singed up with the deadline coming up shortly.
  • High Adventure in Summer 2008
  • Cycling merit badge dates sent in an email.
  • We are short of monthly camping outings that we have for a goal of the troop.  Rich mentioned that the PLC always runs out to time planning the troop meetings and never has any time to plan camping outings.  The PLC would benefit if the camping date are set in the annual plan.
  • Steve K. said that the troop should try to get more involved in the District Camping Events because troop involvement has been minimal.

Service Events:

  • Scouting for food was a success.
  • St Jude Landscaping service project.
    • May 19 (?) tear out rocks (before or after a the troop meeting).
    • June project to put rock back in.  tbd
  • Wood duck houses are complete.
  • First week of May for shoreline cleanup – Brad is still working on a data and will email the troop.

Pack / Troop Interaction:

o        Need a couple of new den chiefs and Isak for the Pack Picnic at  5:00pm on June 1.

o        June 17 twins (Washington Nationals) game with the troop / pack.   $19, tee-shirt, hot dog, pre-game parade.

§         Steve K / Wyeth will send an email to the troop.

o        Saint Paul Saints in August.

Other

n       Approved the purchase of materials for new shelving for St. Jude storage space.

n       Steve K. said that some of the new cub scouts want to continue selling the wreaths in the fall as a scout account fundraiser.  The pack has been averaging 70% wreaths vs. 30% popcorn.  Many committee members suggested that we stay out of the wreath selling business and let the cub scouts sell the wreaths because we shouldn’t take away the sales from the cub scouts.  Rich mentioned that their previous customers continue to ask to buy wreaths.  We ran out of time so this subject was tabled until the next committee meeting.

n       Training – There will be Outdoor Leader training at Tomahawk. July 19->26, 26->Aug 2   Aug. 16->23

n       John Y. reported that we received approval to hang the Eagle Plaque on the East wall under one of the TV’s.
