FOR SCOUTS AND PARENTS

June 2005

 

Tomahawk

Tomahawk 2004 is Aug 6-13 with a planning meeting on July 31 @ 6:30 at St. Judes.  All scouts attending Tomahawk and a parent must be present at the July 31 planning meeting. 

n      Final Payment will be due on Aug. 6 before we leave for Tomahawk.

n      The cost will be $215 and includes a new class B tee-shirt. 

n      All scouts and adults must have their health forms to attend Tomahawk – Contact Pam Schwartz (779-8701) for information on health forms, download the Class B Youth form from http://www.indianhead.org/resources/forms.asp#camp

n      Each scout needs to bring their own mess kit (bowls / plates, utensils, cups) and a mesh bag to hang their kits after washing them.

n      See the attached recommended equipment to bring to Tomahawk.

n      Included in your Tomahawk payment is a new class B T-Shirt that was ordered with your Tomahawk deposit.

 

Tomahawk Merit Badges:

All scouts attending Tomahawk need to pre-register their Merit badge selections with Jim Greene by 7/24.  Please email Jim @ njgreene@comcast.net with your merit badge selections

n      First year Scouts are required to attend Brownsea training plus two merit badges – Pick from Mammals, Basketry, Leatherwork or Wood Carving.  The minimum costs are $20-$25 for Basketry, $6 for Leatherwork, $5 for Wood Carving. 

n      All other scouts attending Tomahawk need to pre-register their Merit badge selections based on the attached list, with Jim Greene by 7/24.  Please email Jim @ njgreene@comcast.net with your merit badge selections

Junior Leader Training

Congratulations to Ben Logan, Spencer Christensen and Isak Vartti who will be attending Junior Leader Training this summer.

 

St. Jude Cornfest Cleanup

Gain some service hours by helping clean up after the 2005 Cornfest on Sunday Aug 14 from 9->3.

 

Summer Merit Badges:  

Take advantage of the summer Merit badge dates listed in the calendar.  Scouts should contact their Merit badge counselor at least 3 days in advance by phone to indicate they will be working on the Merit badge and to get directions to their houses.  The counselor’s phone numbers are:

  • Bob Libel will start Swimming Merit Badge in July.  Leave Bob Libel a phone message if you’re interested.

·         Dick Bartlet will be available for Personal Management, American Business, and Computers Merit Badges on Mondays.  Call in advance to schedule a meeting.

·       Dennis Lindeke will offer the first part of Environmental Science at his home with the reminder of the badge to be completed at Tomahawk.  Scouts must call and leave Dennis to schedule a meeting
