TROOP 433 NEWS

FOR SCOUTS AND PARENTS

November–December 2003

Welcome, Webelos! We’ll be sending you the Troop 433 newsletter this year so you can learn more about the troop as you prepare to become a Boy Scout.

Scouting for Food

The Scouting for Food collection Nov. 1 was a great success, with around two and a half tons of food collected for the Mahtomedi Food Shelf. Thanks to all who participated. The next Scouting for Food collection will be April 24.

TC Chair Changes

Thanks a million to Roger Brogren, who has served as troop committee chair for many years. Roger is retiring from the position but will remain a member of the troop committee and a merit badge counselor. Thanks also to Dennis Lindeke, who has volunteered to take on the job. Contact Dennis (426-9415, dennis.lindeke@metc.state.mn.us) if there are issues you would like the troop committee to discuss.

Brule a Blast

The Brule River whitewater canoe trip was once again a great success, with a dozen scouts participating and just about all of them getting wet.

Cycle Outing

Eleven scouts went the 50-mile distance to complete the most rigorous part of the cycling merit badge requirements on the Root River Trail in southeastern Minnesota in October. Good job guys!

Upcoming Outings

The next campout will be Dec. 5–7 at Fred C. Andersen. The troop will also travel to the Boundary Waters for the Okpik winter camping adventure Feb. 13–15. Winter adventures planned closer to home include Klondike Derby February 7 and a district Ice Extravaganza/Ice Fishing Contest  on White Bear Lake March 6. Contact Jim Greene  (653-7558) for more information or to sign up for any of these events.

Advent Fair

Scouts and adults, please set aside Nov. 23 for St. Jude’s annual  Advent Fair pancake breakfast. The troop runs the pancake part of this parish fundraiser as a service project for our charter organization. Sign up to help at the troop meeting.

Looking for a Fund Idea

The troop is looking for a second fundraiser (in addition to the spring pancake breakfast) to keep our bank account healthy. Some ideas that have been discussed are a garage sale, cell phone recycling, and selling first aid kits. If you’d like to take the lead on a fundraiser, please contact Dennis Lindeke at 426-9415 .

Get Your Propane Tank Here

If you lent a propane tank to the troop for Tomahawk, it’s time to retrieve it. Contact Steve Wiberg, 429-7914.

New Arrowmen

Congratulations to T433’s newest members of Order of the Arrow, who completed their ordeal this fall: Sean Donovan,  Bryan Greene, Mike Greene, Dan Hoff, Nick Lindeke,  Henry Puskala, Mike Schwarz, Tony West.

Den Chiefs Needed

Three scouts are needed to serve as den chiefs for Webelos dens. This is a great chance to gain leadership experience required  for advancement while helping younger scouts, too. Contact Steve Wiberg to volunteer.

Snow Sports Merit Badge

Steve Wiberg will offer snow sports merit badge at Trollhaugen January 18 and February 1. Sign up at the troop meeting.

First Aid Opportunities

Indianhead Council is offering CPR, basic first aid, and wilderness first aid courses this winter for scouts and adults. For more information contact Mary Hoff, 426-5052.
